From Highway 41, head east on 50 for about 37 miles, and you arrive!
Look up and see the water tower! That's one historic water tower!
Welcome To Loogootee Home of Jack Butcher Indiana's All Time Winningest High School Basketball Coach" 806 - 250
The 1975 State Championship was electrifying not just for Loogootee but for most of Indiana! (Loogootee was defeated by Marion, 58 to 46, but WHAT A GAME!) Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUW2N8thogE
Loogootee is a friendly, bustling town with a multitude of thriving local businesses! There are so many – and we'll focus on two here! Our first business is the Loogootee branch of Terri Kelso Insurance! Terri Kelso was recently honored as the Washington Times Herald 2019 Women in Business Entrepreneur / Small Business of the Year! Visit her online at www.terrikelsoinsurance.com!
Loogootee is also home to the famous Stoll's Lakeview Restaurant! Situated on the beautiful shore of West Boggs Lake, Stoll's is the area's outstanding Amish buffet-style restaurant. Stoll's boasts a mouth-watering buffet that changes daily and is filled with delicious home cooking (the best meatloaf on earth, in the opinion of the writer), along with incredible sides that take you back home... as well as homemade everything! Homemade biscuits, homemade cookies, homemade desserts (even sugar-free versions)! Stoll's Lakeview is on 231 about 2 ½ miles north of Loogootee.
And, YES! Loogootee high school is the home of the black-and-gold Lions! It's also home to the incredibly historic Jack Butcher Sports Arena! (Named for the winningest coach in Indiana high school basketball history, but you already knew that!) The semi-state championship game against Seymour is right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxDA1S13wAY
The team's appearance during the 1974-1975 season was very much like the 1954 Milan Indians (and also similar to the Ireland Spuds of 1962-1963)!
In 2012, Loogootee claimed the State basketball championship – and here's a link to that game - enjoy!
